BED BUGS! My partner and I arrived at Selina and upon checking in we checked the room for bed bugs following US EPA guidelines, which is something we do anytime we're staying away from home. The mattress cover in room 305 was covered in blood spots as is found when there are or have been bed bugs. After alerting reception we were offered room 504 and upon inspecting that bed similar blood stains were visible (photos attached). The patterning of these blood spots stains is not something that would be caused by someone bleeding on the mattress for another reason. As the stains on two different floors and rooms suggest either an active bed bug infestation or one that was not fully treated, we decided not to stay and booked another hotel at a significant expense and stress as it was after 8pm already. If Selina was serious about treating the infestation they would have thrown out and replaced the mattress covers. While the receptionist seemed understanding, she doubted that the stains were from bed bugs, which is alarming considering (1) all of the other recent reviews about bed bugs and (2) identification of signs of bed bugs should be basic knowledge for anyone in the hotel business. She said she was unable to refund us and that her manager who did have the ability to do so was unavailable, despite the fact that we could see and hear her sending and receiving voice memos to/from the manager about the situation while we were standing there. We have now emailed the Selina email address that the receptionist provided 3 different times and have received no response whatsoever. We received an automatic email from them that canceled the reservation, but we still haven't received any refund. This level of service (or lack thereof) is extremely unprofessional and unacceptable and shows poor regard for customer and public health.

We loved our room and our stay. However, the pool nor rooftop were open on sunny days. This should be communicated to guests immediately upon booking so we can make an informed decision regarding our stay. Additionally, the TV in the room was never fixed. However, the front desk staff is amazing and the grounds are beautiful. Will stay again.

Check all the facilities are open before you book. The roof terrace was shut on my visit and building works were noisy from 8am. Was fine for a hostel, but not what I expected from a Selina, very little atmosphere. Very clean, just lacked any social atmosphere and noisy from 8am.

Deeply disappointing experience; misleading, unfriendly, and money-grabbing While the hostel itself is clean and well located, my overall experience was extremely disappointing. The staff were consistently rude, unhelpful, and seemed far more interested in extracting as much money as possible from guests than providing a welcoming environment. One of the most frustrating issues was their restrictive policy on laptop use. Despite the on-site café being practically empty, guests are forbidden from using their laptops anywhere except the co-working space, which costs an additional €10-15 per day. This is incredibly unfair and misleading, especially as a paying guest. The hostel markets itself as having communal areas, but in reality, it functions as a hostel with a separate paid co-working space. The only place I was allowed to use my laptop without paying extra was on my dorm bed, which is obviously impractical and uncomfortable. We were unlucky with the weather and couldn’t use the outdoor spaces, leaving us with nowhere indoors to work or relax without extra charges. It was made worse by the inflexible, dismissive attitude of the staff. Their rules were arbitrary and clearly prioritised profit over guest experience. I left feeling disappointed and unwelcome, I wouldn’t recommend this hostel to anyone expecting basic hospitality or fairness.

Great location, quiet but walkable. That's about the only pro of this place. I stayed in a private room and it's massively overpriced for what it is; you could easily find a hotel for less that would be far nicer. I picked Selina over staying in a hotel for the social aspect, but there was basically no one around and no social life to speak of – maybe it was just off-season but that really negated any benefit of choosing this place. I also think it's a bit ridiculous to be charging those paying for a private room (over 150€ a night) for a towel – okay in dorms but at that price, a towel should be included. Bathroom amenities were massively random: liquid soap (okay), bath foam (for what bath???), and conditioner (usually you need shampoo first for that). It felt like some staff member had just brought whatever products they had left at home and stuck them there. Rooms are clean but basic; contrary to some other recent reviews, my room was far too hot but the window can't be left open so you can only air it in short bursts. But worst part of all is that the walls are paper-thin; I could hear every single detail of what was happening in my neighbours' room, and I wish I hadn't. In short: fine for dorms, probably, but otherwise save your money, stay at a nice hotel, and find social activities through walking tours, pub crawls, etc. around the city.
