The water turns off every night 10pm-6am. I was not made aware of this when booking the reservation. There is a WhatsApp group chat in which the hostel states that this is due to a crisis. I’m not sure what crisis this is referring to. To the best of my knowledge nearby hotels have water all day. The hostel was nearly totally empty during my stay. Not a social vibe. Not close to any part of town, you will need a vehicle or will need a taxi / tuck tuk to get anywhere. Not a long trip, but it will be an added cost to get anywhere. The staff are kind, but there is no one at the desk at night. I’d imagine it would feel quite unsafe for woman guests. Coffee is not included. Costs $3/cup. While this is one of the cheaper options in Nosara, it is not worth the money. You’re better off spending a bit more to stay somewhere nicer.

Would have left 2 stars but the 4.3 stars they already have is completely misleading so I've left 1 to bring the average down to something a bit closer to reality. The rooms were excellent, the service poor. The kitchen was removed in January 2025 "to better align with their brand". We had brought vegetables and weren't even allowed to put them fridge. The restaurant was closed and there were multiple empty fridges in reception. No water between 10pm and 6am, but sometimes it gets shut off earlier. Staff were completely disinterested.

Wasn’t going to leave a review but I have not received my refund or any response to my questions about my refund. Echoing everyone else’s comments, upon arriving, this was not the place that I once loved (we stayed here years ago and had a great time). No kitchen, pool dirty and not working, water not running at night, under construction, the rooms are a very specific model for a specific type of person.. etc..

There were a few things about the service that we disliked, but none of it bad enough to leave a negative review, until on our last night we got locked out of the premises. We had asked staff about how to access the beach, and they told us about forest trails that lead from the back of the complex direct to the beach. It's perfect, a beautiful walk through nature. However, when we came back from the beach we found that a gate had been shut and locked across the trail entrance. The staff who told us about the trial had not told us about a gate. We called reception to ask them to let us in, but despite repeated calls nobody picked up. A high fence went into the forest either side of the gate, and we tried to go around, but there wasn't a path and we got badly cut-up by thorns in the bushes. We went back to the gate and yelled as loudly as we could. Some other guests heard and said that they had been locked out too and had climbed the fence. We tried, but we were a bit heavier and the fence bent under our weight. Scared of falling from the top, we eventually gave up and walked around. Walking all the way back out and around on the road took about an hour, and the whole experience added about 2 hours to the time it took us to get back. It meant we arrived back late, and water gets turned off at 10pm, so we weren't able to shower or flush the toilet. Locking the gate was completely unnecessary. Often hotels lock gates for security, but this hotel complex is always open from the other side. Once we walked around on the road, we were able to just walk straight down the driveway, without any gates. If someone wants to enter, they always can. There was also no security guard or any staff around at night time, so this hotel definitely isn't worried about security. I have no idea why they locked the gate. Also, some of the pictures show a kitchen and previous reviews praise it, but be aware that they removed the kitchen in January "to better align with their brand". We showed up with fresh vegetables, and were not allowed to put them in a fridge during our stay, despite the bar and restaurant being closed and all their fridges being empty. Apparently they often get asked to refrigerate food and have a strict policy against it.

I strongly discourage staying at this hotel. The price is completely overestimated for an experience that is far from satisfying. The old charm of Selina is long gone. The rooms and the entire site seem to have been abandoned, with no attention given to maintenance. There is no real restaurant, only a small basement canteen that offers very little. And to top it all off, they charge you $3 for a coffee at the reception, even though a room costs over $300. If you’re looking for atmosphere and an authentic experience, look elsewhere. This place is dead.
